My
Views on the guide
I
am an ex-climbing instructor who has led or been a member of a number
of mountaineering expeditions in various ranges around the world,
including the Himalayas. As such I believe that my opinion of Lila
Bista as a guide is a valid one and worthy of consideration.
Lila
has been my guide and porter on two treks, 28 days doing the Annapurna
Circuit including Tilicho Lake and the ABC Sanctuary in 1999, and
18 days in the Langtang area in 2002. Throughout he has shown excellent
judgement and a most considerate attitude that has made him a real
pleasure to be with.
Lila
Bista is a man of bright intelligence and sensible ambition who
has always looked after my needs with considerable care and unflagging
cheerfulness. I have recommended him to friends with no previous
experience in Nepal who have more than confirmed his ability and
good nature. He is an excellent travelling companion with a strong
sense of duty to safeguard those for whom he is responsible.
I
have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Lila to anyone who
wants to be guided on a trek in Nepal by a knowledgeable, experienced
and considerate individual.

Our
Views on the guide
In
1997 while on our honeymoon in Nepal Joan and I had the opportunity
to fulfil my dream of trekking in the Himalayas. Being 46 and 51
at the time, no experience in mountain trekking, we were a little
dubious of the challenges that lay ahead.
Upon
our arrival in Kathmandu we had the good fortune of connecting with
Hari as a guide. After consulting with him we chose a 12 day trek
through the Anapurna Range. From this point on Hari started addressing
our needs, arranging for the storage of unnecessary luggage and
transportation to Pokra, our starting point. Our next 12 days were
spent trekking from village to village, teahouse to teahouse. It
was quite evident by the greetings we received that Hari was held
in high regard by the residents of the various villages we visited.
Joan and I found it very beneficial to be associated with Hari.
We
were totally looked after with Hari handling our accommodations,
required trekking permits, and even ensuring our hiking gear was
dried over night if required. He ensured our safety and was mindful
of our physical and endurance abilities. Being well versed in English
made Hari invaluable. He assisted in the ordering of food, explaining
various dishes, as well as Nepalese customs and traditions. He is
very knowledgeable of the local area and provided additional information
in areas of interest to us such as Religion, government, caste system
and schooling.
Joan
and I highly recommend Hari as a guide, without reservation. We
found the service provided was superior to others we had encountered.
His knowledge, sense of humour, and intelligence made this trip one
we will never forget. We came away with a friend and a feeling for
Nepal no other country has matched. For this we credit Hari.

Our
Views on the guide
Having
done all my climbing in Britain & the Alps my dream has always
been to visit the Himalayas and Nepal in particular. Not wanting
to go off with a large group (my friend and I like to do our own
thing) I was lucky to be put in touch by my daughter with one of
her college friends who had recently been to Nepal and done a short
trek with Hari as guide.
I e-mailed Hari immediately to secure his services.
My friend Matt & I duly arrived in Kathmandu on the 30th October
2001,and walking out of the airport realized immediately that we
were completely out of our depth. Not to worry though, Hari was
there to meet us and soon had us sorted out with good accommodation
in the heart of Thamel.
The following day we were Annapurna bound - by bus. The Nepalese
bus culture has to be experienced to be appreciated. So we set out
with with Hari, thank goodness in complete control, and with his
cousin Shyam who was to be our porter. I will not go into detail
about the Trek itself, but it is a glorious walk of discovery, breathtaking
scenery, huge magnificent mountains, blue sky, friendly people,
happy children and it was a truly humbling experience. Hari &
Shyam during the walk became good & close friends and Hari made
sure that we had good accommodation, food that was well cooked,
and that we took things carefully to acclimatize properly. He is
very professional in what he does and you know you are in very safe
hands. The trek itself was a delight full of fun and laughter; we
had a great time together & enjoyed each other's company. Hari
has a vast amount of Knowledge about the culture the religions &
about the mountains as well, and he never got fed up with the hundreds
of questions we kept asking.
You go to Nepal to see and be amongst the mountains, afterwards
on reflection it's usually the people which you remember the most.
So go for a walk with Hari-you will never regret it or
forget it.
